We provide support with medication reminders and activities of daily living, along with better nutrition and exercise programs to enhance overall well-being.
Connection
We offer daily, well-rounded opportunities for participation and social engagement with neighbors, associates, friends, and family – and monthly outings – fostering a sense of autonomy, belonging, and purpose.
Cognitive Support
We engage residents in specialized programs and therapies designed to stimulate cognitive function and promote emotional well-being, including music and art therapy, memory-enhancing exercises and games, reminiscence therapy, and sensory stimulation exercises.

Why is engagement important in dementia care?
Meaningful engagement plays an important role in supporting the emotional and cognitive well-being of people living with dementia. Research from the University of Southern California shows that regular engagement and environmental stimulation can improve mood, reduce depression and behavioral distress, and support overall quality of life for individuals with dementia. Learn about Arits’s signature Power of Play engagement programming here.
At Artis, we create thoughtful, purposeful experiences that encourage participation, connection, and a sense of meaning. These moments of engagement help residents stay connected to themselves and others, while supporting comfort, dignity, and daily well‑being.
How does Artis personalize resident experiences?
To help our residents experience optimal well‑being, we start with our signature Artis Partnership Profile, a questionnaire that gives us a thorough and thoughtful understanding of their history, interests, and personal qualities. We gather details on everything from their health history to their grandchildren’s names, the places they’ve lived, what they love to talk about (and what they’d rather not), the schools they attended, favorite foods and much more. We take these responses and create a structure, routine and care plan with opportunities for social connection and freedom to be one’s authentic self. How does Artis involve families in their loved one’s care?
At Artis, families are essential partners in helping inform care plans and engagement strategies, from the Partnership Profile questionnaire they complete at move-in, to ongoing communication with health and wellness staff. Families are encouraged to be as involved in caregiving as they choose, including enrichment programs, meals and special events. We offer tools and resources to help families navigate challenges and enjoy meaningful, positive time together.
How does Artis handle dementia-related behaviors?
At Artis, we understand that behaviors are a form of communication and expression. Our associates are specially trained in dementia care and focus on understanding what a resident may be feeling or trying to express.
We use compassionate, evidence-based approaches such as redirection, reassurance, and emotional validation rather than correction or confrontation. Our goal is to reduce distress, maintain dignity, and create a sense of comfort and familiarity.
Our approach is collaborative and highly individualized. By learning each resident’s life story, preferences, and routines, we tailor support in a way that feels familiar, meaningful, and responsive to their unique needs. We prioritize these supportive approaches first and, when needed, collaborate with the resident’s medical provider to thoughtfully consider whether medication may help support safety and comfort.
Is routine important for people with dementia?
Yes. Consistent routines help reduce confusion and provide comfort and predictability for people with dementia. Artis supports these routines through a complete understanding of their preferred schedules and person-centered care.
How is well-being measured at Artis?
Well-being is measured in a holistic way by looking at engagement, emotional health, relationships, and overall quality of daily life. Each resident receives a comprehensive evaluation at move-in, completed by our
Director of Health & Wellness with input from our Director of Community Integration. This process helps us understand each resident’s needs, preferences, and routines. From there, we continuously observe, document, and adjust each resident’s personalized plan of care based on day-to-day experiences, observations, and feedback from the resident and family.
Evaluations are updated regularly and whenever there is a meaningful change, ensuring that support remains current, appropriate, responsive, and centered on each resident’s well-being.
Can residents continue their hobbies and interests?
Yes. Continuing personal interests is a priority at Artis because it supports identity, purpose, and connection.
At move‑in, families complete a Partnership Profile that helps us understand each resident’s interests, routines, and what brings them joy. Those insights directly inform how experiences are planned and reflected in our monthly community calendars.
Interests are woven into daily life in meaningful ways, from familiar hobbies showing up in small group activities to shared experiences that invite residents to participate together. Residents are encouraged to share what they love, and in many cases, those interests shape programs or inspire others. Some residents may even help lead or co‑create activities, reinforcing confidence, belonging, and connection within the community.
This approach allows each community’s calendar to reflect the people who live there, not just a set of scheduled events. See how Artis celebrates what brings residents joy here.
