It’s National Physical Therapy Month, and we’re grateful for the hands that keep us moving.
Physical therapists help residents build strength, improve balance, and move through each day with confidence. This work shows up in real moments: finding steady footing on the dance floor, walking to dinner with a friend, gardening, painting, or pursuing a hobby brings them joy.
No matter where our residents are on their journey, physical therapists are there to celebrate the small wins as much as the big ones.

📚🍎 Honoring Our Resident Teachers on Teachers’ Day! 🍎📚
Today was a truly special celebration at Artis Senior Living of Potomac as we honored our resident teachers Jane and Leslie alongside the children of Wilson Lane Children’s Center. ❤️
Our resident educators had the wonderful opportunity to step back into a familiar role—sharing stories and reading books to the children. It was a beautiful moment of reminiscence, bringing back memories of classrooms, curious young faces, and the joy of helping children learn. We ended our time together singing “Itsy Bitsy Spider,” filling the room with smiles, laughter, and generations connecting through music. 🕷️🎶
To make the day even sweeter, our resident teachers presented the children with Artis souvenir bags filled with coloring materials, “A is for Apple” goodies, colorful pens, and fun sunglasses. 🎨🍎🕶️
For our teachers, education may have been a career, but inspiring others is a gift that never retires. Today reminded us that the lessons, kindness, and encouragement they shared throughout their lives continue to touch a new generation.

🎨 Creativity lives in the senses. By exploring texture, shape, color, and sound, we light up multiple pathways in the brain, each a new doorway to expression and connection on the dementia journey.
In October, we’re exploring Play as Imagination at Artis. Join us in celebrating the wonderfully weird decorative gourd. Smooth ones, bumpy ones, tall ones, round ones, inviting us to touch, create, and play. Wrap them in ribbon, turn them into shakers, sort them by size, or help build a gourd village.

🦙🌾 Celebrating World Farm Animal Day with My Pet Alpaca at Artis Senior Living of Potomac! 🌾🦙
Our community was filled with joy as our furry alpaca friends gave us the opportunity to touch, connect, learn, feed, and create special memories together. Their gentle presence brought so much excitement, laughter, and curiosity to our residents, families, loved ones, and associates. 💚
Petting and feeding the alpacas provided wonderful sensory stimulation through touch, sight, sound, and movement, while encouraging relaxation, conversation, social connection, and reminiscence. For some residents, it brought back treasured memories of farms, animals, childhood, and family life. 🌻
And the fun wasn’t just for our residents! Some associates, families, and loved ones who were initially a little afraid conquered their fears once the cuteness overload took over! 🦙❤️
Sometimes, a gentle touch from a furry friend can touch our lives, awaken a memory, and create a brand-new one.

🌿 A beautiful surprise brought faith and connection to Artis Senior Living of Potomac!
We were delighted to welcome Rabbi Kaplan, a family friend of our resident Douglas, who graciously led a Jewish service celebrating Sukkot. 💛
Known as the “season of our joy,” Sukkot celebrates the harvest and recalls the temporary shelters used by the Israelites during their journey through the wilderness. It offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect on gratitude, faith, and life’s blessings. (myjewishlearning.com, chabad.org)
