National Culinary Arts Month is in full swing. 🧑‍🍳 So we’d like you to meet one of Artis’s remarkable chefs – Jorge N. Cambre, Director of Culinary Services at Artis Senior Living of Chestnut Ridge in New York.

Jorge earned his degree from Florida Culinary Institute, and owned a high-end restaurant, Casa del Sol in Miami, for 20 years. He has been with Artis for three years, where residents love his “Around-the-World” destination dinners, cooking classes and homemade pizza.

When he’s not pleasing residents’ palates at Artis, Jorge volunteers at Endeavor 21+ Foundation, an organization that offers adults of all abilities the chance to deepen their artistic and practical abilities.

“I have always been drawn to older people because of their wisdom, and what they bring to the table,” said Jorge. “I know can learn something from them. I want to understand them.

“I know I can come to work every day and make a difference, and make our residents’ days more enjoyable,” he added. “I like to make our residents smile. They know they are going to get a smile back.”

Thank you, Chef Jorge, for the smiles you bring to Artis every day! 😋

Perhaps ironically, the best way to celebrate independence is in the company of friends and neighbors. Artis communities did July 4th right with cookouts, ice cream and family fun as we watched fireworks light up the sky! 🇺🇸 🎆

🧑‍🍳 July is National Culinary Arts Month – and the perfect opportunity to celebrate Eugene B., lifelong chef and resident of Artis of Wilmette in Illinois.

Eugene and his wife, Marianne, emigrated from Germany and have been married 60 years. 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨 Thoughtful associates create "date nights" for Eugene and his wife every day, and their family often joins them. Eugene loves the food at Artis (high praise indeed!) and offers his informed feedback about the menu at monthly “Time to Dish” meetings. He also enjoys connecting with the community's chef over all things culinary – preparing food, sharing tips and sampling the food together.

We're proud to honor and celebrate the full spectrum of our residents' life stories in a way that works today, empowering them to retain their personal identity and live more independently. See how we're telling the Artis story to the world on our new website! artisseniorliving.com/

Hydration is crucial, especially as we age. Here are some tips to help you get into a healthy hydration habit! 💧

1. Sippin' All the Day: No need to chug a whole glass at once – take small, frequent sips, even if you don’t feel thirsty.

2. Do Yourself a Flavor: Add fruit slices to water, or try sparkling water, juices, and herbal teas to keep things interesting.

3. Set a Schedule: Link drinking water to meals, daily tasks or socializing – use an app or make a fun chart to stay on track.

4. Eat Your Water: Include popsicles, Jell-O, broth-based soup and water-rich fruits like cantaloupe and peaches, in your diet.

5. Keep It Handy: Place a pitcher or water cooler in rooms besides the kitchen – and keep the fridge stocked with your favorite bevvys.
