Community Mission and Values Hero 1

Our guiding principles help us set a high standard for quality, safety and well-being, every day.

We believe that teamwork, accountability, and mutual respect create an environment where everyone is motivated to be and do their best. We understand interdependence and consider the impact of business decisions on residents, associates, families, local partners, and owners.

We recognize that our attitudes directly affect our residents and each other. We know positivity is integral to holistic well-being and is a collective effort, shared and amplified by associates, residents, families, and our local partners alike. We support residents and each other in building resilience, helping residents to navigate the challenges of aging and dementia with warmth and tenderness.

We think before we act, because we are ultimately responsible for our actions and decisions. We exhibit empathy and integrity. We strive to know and honor each other’s stories and to make each moment meaningful. We exhibit behavior that inspires others to do what’s right for our residents, their families, and our associates.

We believe that optimal well-being can be achieved at any age, and we aim to create an environment that encourages individuality and independence. We believe that the right mix of sleep, nutrition, natural light, movement, meaningful relationships, and opportunities for play are the secret to living an inspired and present life.

We know that while we pride ourselves on what we do, continuous improvement is how we maintain an Artis level of quality. We know that profitability allows us to maintain our promises to residents and families. We embrace change, nimbly adapt from failures, and frequently celebrate successes.

What if the most meaningful moment of the day began with a simple question: “Which would you prefer today?” For people living with dementia, having the freedom to choose – what to wear, where to sit, whether to join a program or simply observe – can have a real impact on dignity and connection. At Artis, July's Power of Play theme explores how small, low-pressure choices create space for authentic engagement and presence with no “right” answers – just an open invitation to participate in a way that feels good today. Learn how Artis supports connection through play this summer.

Resident Spotlight: Meet Jack! ⭐

Born in Wilmington, Jack is the proud father of seven children. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps and was an active member of the American Legion. After his military service, Jack built a rewarding career as a mail carrier—a job he truly loved and took great pride in.

When he's not sharing stories and laughter, Jack enjoys spending time outdoors, following NASCAR, watching classic Westerns, and visiting with friends and neighbors. His warm personality, great sense of humor, and love of conversation brighten our community every day.

We are so grateful to have Jack as part of the Artis Senior Living family. Thank you for your service, your kindness, and the joy you bring to those around you, Jack!

Resident Spotlight:

This afternoon our residents tapped into their creative side today during Expressive Therapy with Rachel Demir!

The group experimented with bleeding tissue paper art, using just water, paintbrushes, and colored tissue squares on watercolor paper. As the water blended the colors, it left behind a beautiful "stained watercolor" effect. To finish the session, everyone framed their final pieces.

A huge thank you to Rachel for coming in and leading such a great, hands-on activity! 🎨🖼️

July Power of Play-Freedom ❤️🤍💙

Residents and guests took part in a series of friendly votes, giving everyone the opportunity to choose how the afternoon would unfold. The options included Classic Country vs. Big Band music, Popcorn vs. Chocolate Chip Cookies, Maracas vs. Tambourines, and two patriotic craft choices: a Popsicle Stick Flag or a Star Ribbon Band.

After the votes were tallied, Classic Country was the clear favorite, providing the soundtrack for the afternoon as residents and guests sang along, tapped their feet, and kept the rhythm with maracas, which also won the vote. Whether enjoying a sweet or salty snack, creating patriotic crafts, or simply spending time together, everyone had the chance to participate in the activities they enjoyed most.

The combination of music, movement, creativity, and choice made for a lively and engaging afternoon. Most importantly, it brought residents, families, guests, and team members together for an event filled with connection, laughter, and plenty of smiles!

Thank you so much to everyone who helped set up, support, and carry out our Power of Play event. Your teamwork helped make the day run seamlessly from start to finish. The energy in the room and the enthusiasm from everyone involved made it clear that the event was a wonderful success.

Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸

At Artis, we always value the time we spend around the table with the people we care about – and the food we love. Today, we’re also celebrating something simple yet powerful: the freedom to choose.
🇺🇸Which brings us to an important question. What favorite dish at a cookout gets your taste buds tingling?
🤔 Let us know in the comments! 🍔

🎶 The Stones or The Beatles?
🍦 Chocolate or Vanilla Ice Cream?
🏀 Basketball or Baseball?

Personal choice is essential to dignity and emotional well-being on the dementia journey. While complex decisions may become more challenging with memory loss, simple, sensory-based choices offer opportunities for autonomy and self-expression.

Join us this month at ✅ Celebrating the Freedom to Choose ✅ – our Power of Play signature event! It's an interactive experience where we’ll explore our preferences by “voting” between different options, followed by a family-friendly Open Studio where you can choose a creative program to enjoy together.
