Decades of experience

Our seasoned and forward-thinking leadership team brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the day-to-day operations of every Artis Senior Living community. Each member of the Artis executive team has over 20 years of experience in senior housing and healthcare. In addition, most of our team members have known Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias through their own families, creating an added incentive and passion for our mission.

We’ve been privileged to play a role shaping and defining what quality Assisted Living and Memory Care mean in senior living. We credit that to the strength of our leaders, our person-centered approach to operations, and to the character of each person in our organization.

Executive Leadership

Josh Krull

President & Chief Executive Officer

Artis Senior Living CEO, Josh Krull, has a distinguished 26-year career in senior living. Josh’s love of the industry began in high school when he served as a certified nurse assistant in his hometown of Buffalo, New York.

Josh spent 14 years of his career at Atria Senior Living, the 4th largest senior living management company in North America. He initially served as Executive Director of 3 communities in New York and one in Southern California. Josh moved to a Regional Vice President of Southern California leadership role from 2014-2017 managing 19 communities to 96.3% occupancy.

Josh was promoted to Chief of Staff overseeing all functional operations of the business including Culinary, Care, Resident Engagement, Maintenance, and Memory Care. As SVP and Chief of Staff he also worked in concert with COO to oversee field operations for 6 divisions, comprised of 32 regions with a total of 223 Communities in 28 states and 7 Canadian provinces, generating 1.2 billion in yearly revenue.

Most recently he was CEO of Elegance Living, April 2020 – January 2023, where he successfully navigated the company through the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, launched two new West Coast Northern California developments, and improved their business platform with new functional leaders, adept technology implementation, process improvement, and modern revenue growth strategies.

With an uncompromising commitment to excellence, operational expertise, visionary leadership, and an inner drive to help older people by enhancing the senior living experience, Josh Krull continues to make significant contributions to the field.

Josh currently lives in Arlington, Virginia where he enjoys playing volleyball and cheering for the Buffalo Bills.

Joseph Patrick Smith

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Smith joined Artis Senior Living January 2017. He is responsible for the finance and accounting departments of the company, as well as overseeing the financial reporting, accounting, risk management and benefits for Artis. In addition, he continues to serve as Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Secretary of Sunburst Hospitality Corporation, positions he has held since 2009. He oversees the finance, accounting and benefits departments of the organization. Prior to his current position, Mr. Smith served as Vice President and Corporate Controller of Sunburst from 2005 to 2009, Director of Finance from 2001 to 2004, SEC Reporting Manager from 1998 to 2000, and Construction Accountant for ManorCare from 1996 to 1998. Since 2007, he has served as an Officer and Board Member of Sunsure Assurance, Inc. a South Carolina-licensed captive insurance company. Mr. Smith is a graduate of George Mason University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the state of Virginia. He has been a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Society of CPAs. He serves as Committee Member and Treasurer of a local nonprofit Boy Scout troop.

John D. Reinhardt

Senior Vice President & General Counsel

Mr. Reinhardt has over two decades of experience in counseling real estate and healthcare developers, owners, managers, and operators in their legal matters. From 1999 to 2014, he was Associate General Counsel of The Peterson Companies L.C., a preeminent Northern Virginia real estate development concern. From 1998 to 1999, he was Senior Counsel at Holland & Knight, LLP. From 1990 to 1998, he was a Senior Attorney at ManorCare, Inc. and Manor HealthCare Corp., as well as an attorney for Choice Hotels International, Inc. and Sunburst Hospitality Corp. until their spin-off from ManorCare, Inc. in 1996. Mr. Reinhardt earned his Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Business Administration degrees from The George Washington University in 1989 and 1985, respectively.

Development Leadership

Jay Hicks

Senior Vice President

Mr. Hicks has over two decades of experience in real estate development and planning in both the private and public sectors. His experience in senior healthcare and housing includes positions as Director of Development at Manor Care, Inc. and the Vice President of Development at Somerford Corporation. He is an Equity Holder in Great Falls Heritage Partners, LLC. Prior to Artis, he served as the Managing Director of Planning and Real Estate in the Bureau of Overseas Building Operations at the U.S. Department of State. The remainder of Mr. Hicks’ experience includes positions in real estate development in the Washington, D.C., area and as a municipal planner in Michigan and Virginia.

Operations Leadership

Timothy Lyons

Vice President of Finance

After graduating from Lycoming College in 1990 with a BA in Accounting, Mr. Lyons achieved his Certified Public Accountancy and began his career in healthcare accounting. For eight years, he worked for Parente Randolph and rose through the ranks from Junior Accountant to Manager. For 12 years, he worked for Complete Healthcare Resources, a privately owned nursing home management company, which at one point in time was the largest privately held manager of skilled nursing facilities in the U.S. He had progressively responsible roles as Controller, Vice President of Finance, and Senior Vice President of Finance before joining Rittenhouse Senior Living as the Chief Financial Officer.

Amy Beth DePreker

Vice President of Sales & Marketing

Ms. DePreker has spent over two decades of her career in Memory Care Assisted Living, successfully advancing her career in various facets of the industry, including Assisted Living sales and operations, both on a community level and in corporate support. Since joining Artis in 2015, she has been an integral part of the growth and development of the Artis brand. Ms. DePreker’s passion for Memory Care and helping families navigate this difficult journey of caregiving has propelled her success in the healthcare industry.

Robyn McCracken

Vice President of Health & Wellness

Ms. McCracken began her nursing career as an ICU, Telemetry and a Cardiac Interventional Nse, after she graduated with her RN degree. Following the successful completion of her BSN at Carlow University, she accepted a position as the Assistant Director of Nursing with Beaver Elder Care and Rehabilitation, a Guardian Elder Care community. She was promoted to Director of Nursing after two years of service.

Prior to joining the Artis Senior Living team, Ms. McCracken spent 12 years with Five Star Senior Living, serving six years as a Director of Health and Wellness and six years as a Regional Director of Health.
