Frequently Asked Questions
What amenities are available in Artis memory care communities?
Communities offer expansive, secure outdoor spaces with walking paths and seating; locally themed neighborhoods, each with its own living room, dining room, kitchen and front porch; barbershop and beauty salons, program centers, wellness centers, art studios, and Wi-Fi in common areas.
Are outdoor areas secure?
Yes. Residents enjoy expansive courtyards and walking paths with decorative safety fencing, to safely promote exercise and independence.
How does the community’s design support dementia care?
Thoughtful layouts, visual cues, and smaller neighborhoods reduce confusion and promote comfort. Spaces are designed to optimize resident autonomy with staff supervision. Indoor hallways have an accessible, circular layout to encourage safe exploration.
Can residents personalize their suite?
Yes. Because having familiar belongings around helps with the adjustment to their new home, we encourage you to bring personal items such as photographs, artwork, and furniture. Fully furnished suites are also available. Suites also features a display case outside the door, designed to contain personal photographs, awards, certificates, and/or souvenirs.
Are communities designed specifically for memory care?
Yes. Notable differences from assisted living communities include smaller, more intimate neighborhoods, circular hallway design, secure outdoor spaces, and resident life portrait display cases outside each suite to help reinforce the resident’s sense of identity, aid in orientation, and allow their neighbors to know more about them.
Are common spaces used daily?
Residents are encouraged to spend time with their neighbors and participate in programs every day in shared living spaces, kitchens, studios, and neighborhood porches to encourage social connection.
Do amenities support family visits?
Comfortable gathering areas with ample seating welcome meaningful family time. Family members may also join their loved ones in the dining room at mealtime.
Why do amenities matter in memory care?
Environment plays a critical role in well-being, emotional comfort and cognitive support. Isolation can hasten decline in people with dementia – amenities encourage residents to come out of their suites to participate and socialize.
