Life Enrichment at Artis is powered by people with the training, heart, and intuition to transform everyday moments into meaningful experiences. Meet Marlene, one of our Life Enrichment Directors, whose superpower is discovering what brings each resident to life.

🎶 Far more than entertainment, music is a lifeline for people on the dementia journey. It’s one of the most powerful tools we have for communication, connection, and emotional well-being. Even as memory shifts and language changes, the brain’s musical pathways often remain intact longer than other cognitive systems. A familiar melody can spark recognition, soothe anxiety, energize a sluggish afternoon, or open a door to conversation that words alone can no longer reach.
See how at Artis, music is a form of care disguised as play – and learn 10 musical activities families can enjoy during visits! artisseniorliving.com/blog/why-music-is-instrumental-for-people-living-with-dementia/

To conclude our Honoring Yesterday & Celebrating Today – Holiday Edition, we are featuring a very special lady, Sue. 🎄✨
For Sue, the holidays were always about family, togetherness, and making sure no one ever felt alone. She was the glue that held it all together ..patiently unraveling a tangled ball of lights (testing every single one!), climbing the ladder, and lovingly hanging them outside. No task was too big or too small; she truly loved all the prep that made the season special.
Sue believed in open doors and open hearts. If someone needed a place to belong, her home was it. Christmas cookie baking with her grandchildren was a cherished tradition one they now carry on with their own children. She preferred to stay behind the scenes, never seeking credit, finding her greatest joy in the happiness of others.
A firm believer in giving whatever you’re able, Sue worked year-round to ensure everyone felt the love of the season. She was active in her church’s Secret Santa, helping provide for families who were struggling. Simple joys meant the most: trips to The Pub or “G” Boys, then driving around to admire beautifully decorated homes.
Sue often said Christmas wasn’t like it is now she grew up with very little but was always grateful. Even fruit in her stocking felt like a treat.
One treasured memory from her teenage years was when a neighborhood friend received a special fur coat and invited all the girls to share it, so each could feel special.
📸 The last photo captures Sue in that fancy fur coat it is… timeless, and full of what makes the holiday season…Merry & Bright!

Honoring Yesterday & Celebrating Today – Holiday Edition
✨ Spotlight on Josephine ✨
Josephine celebrated her 106th birthday this past year, and her life continues to be a true inspiration to all of us. During the holiday season, her traditions were centered on what mattered most to her family, faith, and festive decorations.
Josephine worked tirelessly throughout her life, holding many jobs to provide for her family. Despite her hard work, she never lost sight of her priorities. Family and faith were always at the center of everything she did, especially during the holidays when togetherness meant the most.
She also had a special love for holiday decorations, a passion she carried into her work at Wanamaker’s, where she helped create the beautiful displays that brought joy to so many. In fact, Josephine was honored as one of their first Employees of the Year, a testament to her dedication and spirit.
Josephine continues to amaze us with her strength, grace, and enduring love for life. She truly makes our community brighter and reminds us what the holiday season is all about. ✨
